We explore the area’s wilderness gems such as the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park and iSimangaliso Wetland Park, where nature lovers and keen photographers will be in awe of the bountiful wildlife and beautiful scenery. In the small kingdom of Swaziland we engage with a local community, learning about their traditions and customs. Our journey ends in Hazyview, the safari gateway to the Kruger National Park.

Welcome to the tropical North Coast of KwaZulu Natal. On arrival at King Shaka International Airport you are met by your Thompsons Africa Representative and transferred to your accommodation for the night. The remainder of the day is at your leisure to stroll along the golden beach or revitalise yourself with a swim in the sparkling Indian Ocean.

Early risers may be rewarded with the spectacular sight of the sun rising over the ocean and the morning is yours to explore the nearby rock pools or relax at the poolside. At 13h00 you are collected by your Thompsons Africa tour director and head north to South Africa’s oldest game
reserve, Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park. Here a qualified and experienced local field guide leads us on an open vehicle safari. Hluhluwe-iMfolozi is home to the Big Five but is particularly well known for its rhino conservation efforts which saw the reserve being instrumental in bringing the white
rhino back from the brink of extinction. We overnight in the tiny village of St Lucia in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a World Heritage Site and one of South Africa’s wilderness treasures.

(Mon) Swaziland (BB)
An early morning cruise on the St Lucia
Estuary affords us wonderful photographic opportunities as we may encounter large pods of hippos, the occasional Nile crocodile and prolific birdlife. Back on land we set our sights north and cross the border into Swaziland, one of the few remaining monarchies in Africa.

(Tue) Hazyview (BB)
After breakfast we visit an authentic chief’s village to gain an insight into the fascinating traditional Swazi culture. This two hour cultural experience allows us to engage with the residents as they show us their culture and traditions by inviting us to participate in their cultural practices. We cross the border back into South Africa and enjoy lunch (own account) overlooking the Crocodile River, the natural border of the Kruger National Park. We arrive late afternoon into Hazyview, the safari hub of the Kruger National Park.
